Albufeira has been awarded the title of European City of Sport 2026. Alongside 21 other cities across Europe, Albufeira joins this network with the aim of promoting sports participation and affirming sport as a key driver of social and economic development.

Throughout the year, the municipality will host a wide and diverse range of sporting events. These initiatives are expected to further strengthen the prominent position Albufeira already holds within the national sports landscape.

During this period, collaboration between the Municipality and the many local sports and social organisations will reach a new level. It is within this collective effort that the foundations are laid for the lasting impact this distinction will have on the community.

Sport plays a central role in the development of young athletes. Through regular practice, they acquire skills and values that extend far beyond the playing field. Camaraderie, cooperation, resilience and a spirit of commitment are essential elements in fostering autonomy and personal growth among young people.

Albufeira views sport as an integral part of its development model. With the title of European City of Sport 2026, the municipality enters a new and significant chapter in its history.
