HUNDREDS OF ATHLETES CAME TO ALBUFEIRA FOR THE PORTUGUESE ACROBATIC GYMNASTICS CUP

The Portuguese Acrobatic Gymnastics Cup took place last weekend, bringing the country's top athletes to Albufeira Sports Hall. Competitors included athletes from the 1st and 2nd Divisions, as well as the Base Division. After two days of competition, the event was dominated by athletes from Sporting Clube de Portugal and Ginásio Clube de Tomar. Jorge Carmo, Vice President of Albufeira City Council, highlighted the "importance of hosting high-profile events in a year when Albufeira is European City of Sport."


1st CARLOS SILVA E SOUSA WOMEN'S PORTUGUESE CUP BROUGHT TOP CYCLISTS TO ALBUFEIRA

On Saturday, 21 March, a peloton made up of some of the sport's top female cyclists set off in the opening race of the Carlos Silva e Sousa Women's Road Portuguese Cup. More than one hundred athletes started from Albufeira Marina, tackling an 82-kilometre course that passed through the parishes of Ferreiras and Guia.


PORTUGUESE VOLLEYBALL CUP BRINGS TOP-LEVEL COMPETITION TO ALBUFEIRA

Albufeira hosted three days of high-quality volleyball as the Final Four of the Portuguese Cup took place at the Albufeira Sports Hall, bringing together the country's leading teams. The event was part of the official programme of "Albufeira European City of Sport 2026."


ALBUFEIRA SUPER SPRINT CROWNS GUSTAVO DO CANTO AND MARIA TOMÉ AS NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

The 12th edition of the Albufeira Triathlon took place last Sunday (15), bringing more than 300 athletes to the municipality. The event featured multiple races across different categories and age groups. In the elite competition - the National Super Sprint Championship - victory went to athletes from Clube de Natação de Torres Novas, with Gustavo do Canto winning the men's title and Maria Tomé taking gold in the women's race.


2ND EDITION OF THE ALBUFEIRA BEACH TENNIS TOUR ATTRACTS OVER 250 ATHLETES TO PRAIA DOS PESCADORES

Praia dos Pescadores once again played host to the Albufeira Beach Tennis Tour, as the event returned for its second edition from 2 to 8 March, bringing some of the world's top beach tennis players to Albufeira. At the awards ceremony, the municipality's vice-president and councillor for sport, Jorge Carmo, congratulated the winners and described the event as "a sign of what promises to be a particularly important year for sport, with internationally recognised initiatives set to bring visitors from around the world to Albufeira."


ALBUFEIRA MAKES HISTORY IN SCHOOL SPORTS

On 27 and 28 February, Albufeira hosted the National School Cross Country Final at the Açoteias Cross Country Track. The event brought together more than 1,100 students from across Portugal, ranging from 4th to 12th grade. According to the municipality's vice-president, Jorge Carmo, investing in sport as a core element of children's and young people's education remains a top priority.


OPENING GALA DRAWS 1,500 RESIDENTS TO LAUNCH "EUROPEAN CITY OF SPORT 2026"

Around 1,500 people gathered at Pavilhão Desportivo de Albufeira to mark the official launch of the "Albufeira European City of Sport 2026" program. The Opening Gala took place last Saturday (28) and featured a parade of local sports clubs and associations. In his closing remarks, Mayor Rui Cristina expressed pride in kicking off what he described as a "highly ambitious" program.


ALBUFEIRA PRESENTS A PROGRAM WITH MORE THAN 400 INITIATIVES AS PART OF THE EUROPEAN CITY OF SPORT PROGRAM

"More than one sporting activity per day" is the promise made by the Mayor of Albufeira during the presentation of the "Albufeira European City of Sport 2026" Events Program to the media, which took place on February 20th at the Albufeira Sports Pavilion.
