2ND EDITION OF THE ALBUFEIRA BEACH TENNIS TOUR ATTRACTS OVER 250 ATHLETES TO PRAIA DOS PESCADORES

Praia dos Pescadores once again played host to the Albufeira Beach Tennis Tour, as the event returned for its second edition from 2 to 8 March, bringing some of the world's top beach tennis players to Albufeira. At the awards ceremony, the municipality's vice-president and councillor for sport, Jorge Carmo, congratulated the winners and described the event as "a sign of what promises to be a particularly important year for sport, with internationally recognised initiatives set to bring visitors from around the world to Albufeira."

Over the course of the week, more than 250 national and international athletes competed on one of the municipality's most iconic beaches.

The BT200 main draw final took place on the last day of the tournament, with Maksimilians Andersons and Dmitrii Pavlov claiming the men's title. In the women's competition, Brazil's Isadora Simões and Lorena Melo were crowned champions.

The event also featured BT10 and BT50 category tournaments. In the BT10 division, Lev Filatkin and Nikita Osokin won the men's event, while Alexandra Lesnikova and Liubov Voitenko took victory in the women's competition. In the BT50 category, Tristano Frattolillo and Eduardo Paganelli secured first place in the men's event, while Maellhe Hibom and Maria Martinez Seron topped the women's podium.

One of the standout new features of this year's edition was the introduction of a mixed doubles tournament, along with the organisation of the first competition in Portugal to count towards the sport's junior world ranking.

Speaking at the prize-giving ceremony, Jorge Carmo highlighted the importance of the event in strengthening Albufeira's position as a leading destination for international sporting events. He noted that the tournament played a meaningful role in boosting the local economy outside the peak tourist season, while also helping to raise Albufeira's profile on the global sporting stage.

He further described the event as "the first major sporting highlight following the 'Albufeira European City of Sport' Opening Gala," calling it "an early indication of a particularly significant year for sport in the municipality, with international initiatives that will bring people from all over the world to Albufeira."

The event, part of the official programme for "Albufeira European City of Sport 2026," was organised by the Municipality of Albufeira in partnership with Aduane Sports Solutions, under the auspices of the Portuguese Tennis Federation.
