PORTUGUESE VOLLEYBALL CUP BRINGS TOP-LEVEL COMPETITION TO ALBUFEIRA
Albufeira hosted three days of high-quality volleyball as the Final Four of the Portuguese Cup took place at the Albufeira Sports Hall, bringing together the country's leading teams. The event was part of the official programme of "Albufeira European City of Sport 2026."
Held between 13 and 15 March, the competition crowned FC Porto and Sporting CP as champions in the women's and men's events, respectively.
In the women's final, FC Porto secured their first-ever Portuguese Cup title with a victory over SC Braga. The match was decided in four sets, with scores of 25–21, 22–25, 25–23, and 25–20.
In the men's competition, Sporting CP claimed the title after a closely contested match that went to the fifth and final set. The encounter was marked by a high level of balance throughout, reflected in the set scores of 22–25, 28–26, 23–25, 25–21, and 21–23.
At the awards ceremony, Albufeira's mayor, Rui Cristina, highlighted the significance of hosting the event. He praised the teams' performances and expressed his satisfaction at welcoming "a weekend of outstanding sporting entertainment, defined by the athletes' talent and a strong spirit of fair play."
"Albufeira is increasingly proud to host events of this scale, which promote sport, encourage healthy lifestyles, and reinforce the municipality's position as a leading destination for sports tourism," he added.
The Volleyball Portuguese Cup Final Four was organised by the Portuguese Volleyball Federation, with the support of the Municipality of Albufeira, as part of the official programme of "Albufeira European City of Sport 2026."
