HUNDREDS OF ATHLETES CAME TO ALBUFEIRA FOR THE PORTUGUESE ACROBATIC GYMNASTICS CUP
The Portuguese Acrobatic Gymnastics Cup took place last weekend, bringing the country's top athletes to Albufeira Sports Hall. Competitors included athletes from the 1st and 2nd Divisions, as well as the Base Division. After two days of competition, the event was dominated by athletes from Sporting Clube de Portugal and Ginásio Clube de Tomar. Jorge Carmo, Vice President of Albufeira City Council, highlighted the "importance of hosting high-profile events in a year when Albufeira is European City of Sport."
It was a weekend full of gymnastics action. The Cup, held on March 21–22, welcomed around 450 athletes from 21 clubs across Portugal, including the local team, Acro Al-Buhera.
In the 1st Division, the title went to Sporting Clube de Portugal. The Lisbon-based team finished ahead of Acro Clube da Maia, which claimed both 2nd and 3rd places. In the Base Division, Sporting Clube de Portugal also took 1st and 2nd, while Gimnoanima secured 3rd place.
In the 2nd Division, Ginásio Clube de Tomar won the gold and also took bronze. Acro Clube da Maia earned 2nd place.
At the end of the two-day event, Jorge Carmo emphasized the "importance of hosting flagship sporting events, especially in a year when Albufeira is European City of Sport." He added, "Welcoming elite athletes to our municipality is central to our strategy of promoting sport as a driver for youth development."
The competition was organized by the Portuguese Gymnastics Federation in partnership with Acro Al-Buhera and supported by Albufeira City Council. It was part of the Federation's official calendar and featured in the "Albufeira European City of Sport 2026" program.
